Hermitage
Three Views of a Secret
Sometime Ago
The title of this CD comes from MJ Williams’s poignant lyrics for Pat Metheney’s Hermitage, the band’s favorite cut from the project. I found a strange little ostinato to play on the song.
Our friend from Colorado, Colleen O’Brian, sang her words to Jaco Pastorios’ Three Views of a Secret at a concert in Montana. MJ wanted to do the song and I came up with an arrangement that I hoped Jaco would appreciate.
Sometime Ago is a song I’ve played many times in a duo with basist Kelly Roberti. The band decided to include a few duets on this CD and Kelly and I agreed that this tune would be ours.

The Tappan/Roberti Quartet consists of four of the finest jazz players anywhere. Their sound is the 'state of the art' jazz that international audiences cherish and yearn for.
Dancing to the Edge is a recording that seems to reveal layers, not only with each listening but also in the single span of its nine selections. One of the pleasures of the CD is that it is neither self-conscious nor self-referential.
Kelly and Ann seem to enter each others breathing cycle while never losing MJ’s lyrical countenance. All three reach a profound connection.
